The Bessé Signature hotel brand is changing the way we think about French hotels. Consequently, one of their finest properties in Paris is the chic boutique Hotel de Sers which leaves guests dazzled at every turn.
French Modern Classic Style
Hotel de Sers, formerly a grand private townhouse of the Marquis de Sers, has been transformed into one of the best representations of French modern classic style. The grand staircase with wrought iron railings and gold leaf adornments reminds visitors of the rich historical past, while the aqua blue glass tables and gold arabesques in S’bar speak to the modernity of contemporary French interior designers.
Not your typical Parisian Hotel
The rooms are absolutely fantastic. They are bold, bursting with vibrant color but not in an over-the-top way. My room had an incredible black and white print depicting movie film and a 1950’s radio microphone on the enormous headboard inside a black leather frame. The soft white bed linens calm things down for a restful night’s sleep. I also appreciate that there are modern conveniences in each guest room like the double sets of plugs next to the bed, handy for charging multiple electronic devices. Handy, dandy light switches, flush with the headboard make it super easy to turn on and off the room lights as well as the cool and funky reading lamps hanging overhead. The best feature is that they provide an iPad for guests, making it easy to get the daily news online or figure out a tourist path for the day.
Modern Art living as functional spaces
Public spaces, like the library and the masterpiece art gallery, were very interesting places to spend some time exploring.
The cuisine and libations (see recipe below for their signature Paris Dreams cocktail) mirror the decorating philosophy of marrying old and new traditions. Exquisite plates with caviar are paired with vintage French Champagne, but they also serve up hip cocktails with the latest ingredients at S’bar. The courtyard off the bar is filled with greenery, offering guests a little oasis in the busy city.
The recent addition of Chef Fabrice Ponsonnaille to restaurant De Sers has catapulted the hotel into the “foodie” world. The basis of his cuisine lies in taking classic French dishes and giving them a modern shot in the arm. He emphasizes using organic products that are in season and works directly with French farmers to ensure quality.
