Hyatt Regency Nice *****

by Weekend In Paris

Hyatt Regency Nice Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée boasts an art deco facade this is restored to perfection, showing off its beauty and elegance. I love how the modern architecture fits into the landscape along the famous boardwalk of Nice. It dovetails nicely and adds a touch of elegance to the coast.

We were greeted by Morgan, a warm and friendly front desk clerk who checked us in quickly and set the tone for hotel. The concierge Elinor gave us great service, helping us to choose the right dinner spot for our first meal on this trip to France. Instead of merely offering suggestions, she asked us several questions about our likes and dislikes for atmosphere and cuisine narrowing down the selections and made us a reservation for dinner at a restaurant that specializes in local cuisine. We had a quick personal tour of the hotel by the beautiful, professional and sweet Floriane.

Sitting area and balcony at Hyatt Regency Palais

Breathtaking…

… is the word that comes to mind when describing the views from our room. It faces the Mediterranean Sea which glistens with the sun shining brightly in Nice. We enjoyed clear blue skies from our balcony. In real estate they say location, location, location is what makes a property spectacular. Obviously, in this case the Palais’ location is spectacular, but there was more to this hotel than its convenient address.

Sophisticated seaside room

Soothing seaside taupe and coral colors…

… throughout the room gave it a feel that you are one with the outside spaces and when the balcony doors open you can hear the surf pounding the shoreline. It’s as close to sleeping on the beach as one can get. Very relaxing, yet very practical, the rooms had everything we need to make our stay fun and productive. The room is spacious with an area to sit in comfy upholstered chairs. Desk space is comfortable. Cocktails in our room are a dream with the amazing barware at our fingertips.

Spacious bathroom with double vanity

Details matter

The bathroom was huge and had a functional and beautiful design. The space-age round shower capsule was cool looking and had great water flow which many hotels find difficult to achieve. When traveling with friends, it’s especially nice to have a separate water closet so one person can use the restroom while the other person is showering and primping. As it was chilly, despite the sunshine, I loved the towel warming rack and fluffy bathrobes. My favorite detail was the closet! It was spacious and lighted so I could find what I was looking for with ease and had a shoe rack. How many times have I opened my suitcase on a trip and lined my shoes up in a corner so as to not trip over them on the way to the restroom at night? Problem solved! Such a small, but a meaningful detail.

Pillows and duvets are something that can make or break a good night’s sleep. I rate both an A+ here! One pillow was firmer and one was squishy meaning I could pick the right one for my troublesome neck and back. The duvet was exactly the right thickness. I kept the French doors open all night despite the cold to enjoy the sounds of the surf and the duvet kept me warm and cozy. I had a fantastic night’s sleep. Who could ask for more?

Indoor/Outdoor Pool

Cool Pool

Being winter it is too cold to take advantage of the great outdoor spaces and the poolside bar, but we could see how luxurious the deck would be in the height of the summer season. The hotel has a lovely indoor pool where you can swim from inside to outside without getting out of the pool. When you were indoors the colors of the decor made you feel you were outside which would be great on cool winter’s day. Attached to the area was a small, but very nice fitness center with enough equipment to have a good work out if you needed to work off some calories after tasting the local French pastries.

Interior view of the pool and terrace

The breakfast room was bright and inviting and the buffet was outstanding! Both hot and cold options were available and the chef was waiting behind the hot buffet area to make you a special crêpe with all the fixings. The coffee was perfect – not too strong and accompanied by delicious warm cream making the ordinary cup something special.

An added bonus to the personal experience was the lovely hand written welcome note and goodies…

… local wines, macaroons, fruit, candle, key chain and information about Nice. I felt like a celebrity staying in this luxurious spot with the decadent amenities and amazing views. I cannot wait to return to the Côte d’Azur and the Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée!
