These photos are from the Church Notre Dame, right? The stained glass Rosetta looks right. The altar looks like it could be a side altar at Notre Dame. Humm, perhaps it is Notre Dame looking at the facade. Well, it is indeed Notre Dame…Notre Dame, Dijon!
Notre Dame in Dijon is a demure version of the famous one in Paris. The building itself sits in a crowded area where a narrow, but relatively busy street leads up to the front. Unlike Notre Dame Paris, there is no grand empty plaza from which to view the beauty of its facade so one is forced to stand in the busy street craning their necks to peek up at the gargoyles guarding the church.
The feeling inside the church is less daunting than her Paris’ counterpart. The simple altar is lit up even during the day as sunlight is scarce. The church is literally surrounded and overcrowded by other structures which block the rays from providing proper light. Her stained glass windows are impressive, but far fewer in number than in Paris. However, I felt a stronger sense of peace and tranquility when visiting Notre Dame, Dijon and quite prefer the energy that went along with it.
If you get so Dijon, please make sure you don’t miss this gem of a church and light a candle for me!
