I asked teenage actor Romann Berrux (he’s one of my French Instagram buddies) what his favorite museum was in Paris. His answer was the Louis Vuitton Foundation in the Bois de Boulogne. I had not been yet because it always seemed so darn far from my haunts in the 6th. But, sometimes a gal just has to get out of her Left Bank routine and try something new. I heard about the recently renovated four-star modern Paris Hotel La Villa Maillot with five-star service in the 16th arrondissement and decided to give it a whirl.
Modern décor
The hotel (they like to refer to it as a residence) is petit but efficient and très modern. Rooms are completely updated with beautiful showers and vanities in the bathrooms and brightly colored accent pieces of furniture. The more traditional couches in the suites add a touch of classic warmth to the mostly contemporary style of interior design. I was in room 504 in the front of the building and noticed right away that the rooms have quite a bit of soundproofing because the busy street below during the day was quiet to me. The area is very quiet at night so no worries there either!
Sleek and chic
Amenities like the sleek Nespresso machines, bone china coffee cups and saucers, Fragonard bathroom products, heated towel rails and plugs next to each side of the bed make the stay more “homey” while the table/desk areas cater to business travelers who need a real work surface. One amenity not often seen in boutique hotels of this size is a wellness spa complete with a Turkish bath, massage treatment room, and relaxation area.
Breakfast area with fireplace
The nighttime bar area is concealed by dawn with a clever sliding panel with an enlarged photo of what I believe is one of the fountains at the Luxembourg Gardens. The breakfast buffet was sublime with boiled eggs, crusty French bread, buttery croissants, thin crepes and moist canalés. Thoughtfully, they even have a gluten-free section so wheat allergy suffers like me need not go through a whole explanation about dietary restrictions.
Mouthwatering croissants
Not only was Villa Maillot convenient for anyone attending conferences at Le Congress Center, it was also quite handy for those of us who enjoy a brisk walk or run on the nature trails at the Bois de Boulogne and yet close enough to walk to the Arc. The nearest Métro stop is yards away and is on the central line 1, very convenient to all of Paris.
