Overbooked Hotel

by Weekend In Paris

Normally hearing you’re in an overbooked hotel just as you are about to board your plane for an overseas flight is annoying, but in this case, it turned out to be amazing!  Hotel Left Bank re-booked us into their sister hotel Au Manoir and upgraded our room.

The location is fantastic!  Directly across from Café  Flore, this four-star boutique hotel is decorated in beautiful fabrics giving it old world charm while looking fresh at the same time.

Nice bathroom upgrade as a result of the overbooked hotel change

We were greeted with a warm reception and it set the tone for a nice stay.  Our room was spacious (by Parisian standards) with some great amenities.  We had plenty of space for our luggage, a great mini bar and a modern sleek bathroom.

The drawback, the layout.  I have never seen a situation before where you walk into the room via the bathroom. Can you say awkward?  Here’s a scenario for the morning, one person goes down for breakfast while the other is showering.  How do you know when that person is done?  You don’t in this room. There is potential to walk right in on them upon opening the door from the hallway.  Luckily we had the timing down, but I would say this room was more suited for a couple, rather than two gals traveling together.

The breakfast room was cheerful, charming and full of great healthy and delicious options.  The coffee was excellent and the croissants perfection!

One night in Paris and then gal pal Lisa and I are off to Dijon in the morning.  The sweet man working the reception desk organized for our main luggage to be stored at the hotel and then delivered to the Hotel Left Bank upon our return to Paris the following Sunday.  How helpful and practical is that?  We were able to pack small weekend bags for the train trip to Dijon, and have everything waiting for us upon our return in our room.

What could have seemed a negative, in our case an overbooked hotel worked to our advantage. Flexibility pays off again!

Hi Debbie,
I am honored that you are following the blog and have taken the time to write with your questions. The Hotel Left Bank is a great place and they would never leave us stranded. In fact, they bend over backward to ensure your stay is nice. Just make sure that in your profile the hotel has your correct email address and they will be in touch.
The best way for novices from the airport is to take a taxi for sure. There is less following directions and you won’t have to worry about tickets and such. If you are brave and want to save some money by taking the train, simply click on this link and the directions are at the bottom. https://theweekendinparis.com/paris-metro-info-getting-around-paris/
Alternatively, you can take the train from Charles de Gaulle to Gare de Nord and take a taxi the rest of the way. It’s recommended if you have heavy luggage as the Metro requires you take many flights of stairs.
Please let me know how you like the hotel. Remember to say hello to the front desk people for me!
Cheers,
Priscilla
