As luck would have it, all the French that I studied and thought I had down pat vanished into thin air! I usually dream in French right before the trip and certainly during the trip. I have no trouble getting around, ordering food or shopping whatsoever. However, some nights the clock strikes midnight and I wake up with a nightmare.
Remember the recurring dream you had during high school or college where it was the day of the French final and you were wandering the halls not finding the room in which your final was taking place? Then you were late to the exam only to discover when you sat down with a sweaty pencil in hand that you had skipped all the French classes for the past month and knew not one single answer?! OMD (Oh Mon Dieu) it seemed so real that when you woke up you looked around for a while in panic mode wondering if you did indeed fail the French class. Well guess what? Adults can have that dream too! That’s exactly what happens to out of the blue some nights. It’s the same nightmarish dream from Mademoiselle’s Johnson’s French class at Notre Dame Academy. Yup, that’s correct, this girl of French decent was about to fail her favorite language at a French named school. Could it get any worse?
Time to get cracking learning what I’ve forgotten between trips.

Don’t panicked about your French skills ! They will come back as soon as you are back in Paris ! I don’t know the Rosetta Stone method, but it seems well known abroad especially in the US …

Hi Pascale,
It worked! Rosetta Stone did truly help me this time!
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and comment.
Happy reading,
Priscilla
I had these same nightmares before every exam at La Sorbonne. And some days I feel so confident and others completely lost with French. Mon dieu! Using Rosetta Stone too, and determined to gain fluency in 2011! :) Keep at it!
Hi Kasia,
So glad to hear from you! Rosetta helps, but I still freeze when I get in real situations where I have to speak…hopefully this time will be better. So many words sound the same when spoken quickly. UGH!
Can’t wait to see you at the tweetup Jan 23rd.
Cheers,
Priscilla
It will come back to you in a flash once you’re here! Promis.
LOL! I am wondering if I ever had “it” to begin with!
I have a good grasp of vocab, but not any speaking skills whatsoever!
Thanks for the encouraging words Lindsey – can’t wait to be there soon!!!
I’m sure you’ll do great when you’re here and anything that has slipped away will come right back! And, yeah, I know that dream (nightmare!) except I usually sat down for the exam and realized that not only did I not go to classes (which to be honost, I did skip quite a few in high school) I also had forgotten to put on clothes! :) Good luck with the Rosetta and see you soon in Paris!
So funny that people have basically the same dream! Not sure what the psychologists would tell you about your nakedness, but the other part I am told is healthy stress. LOL!
Can’t wait!
