…I’m leaving in January…for Paris!  I booked my flight and hotels today.  This 2012 trip I will not only head to Paris, but it looks like Dijon is in the plans as well.  Mr. Weekend In Paris gets huge points for offering up his free upgrades for me to travel in luxury.  I now have First Class seats made possible from my First Class man. Hopefully my favorite Continental Flight Attendant Sharon Conrad will be working my flight!  The only disappointing news is that the plane flying this route has not been upgraded yet to the new fully reclining seats that make a flat bed when extended.   Oh well, I am hardly in a position to complain!

Gal Pal Lisa is “in” of course, and I’m waiting to hear back from potential new Gal Pals as to their availability.  My itchy trigger finger hit the “book” button because I could not stand to wait any  longer for others to commit.  Woman up gals!  Make a home cooked meal for your man and ask him sweetly so we can get you onboard or book it and beg for forgiveness later…just sayin’.

Calling all Dijon experts – please chime in with suggestions for my “must see and do’s” so that I don’t miss anything worthwhile.  I’ll be taking the train to and from Paris to Dijon so all excursions need to be close to town or easily accessible by taxi/train.

Woo hoo people, I’m Paris bound for 2012!

Hi there EllynAnne,

New Year’s Eve under the Eiffel Tower is the most amazing experience. Be prepared for Frenchmen to grab you and kiss you, even if you are traveling with a companion. It’s the French way! Take public transportation and watch the pick pockets, but enjoy the fantastic fun-filled night in the greatest city on earth.

I am so glad that you have the new fully reclining seats for your flight, mine are NOT! But one great thing is that my favorite flight attendant Sharon Conrad is going to be my attendant! She has been on my flight many times to Paris and she is the most hospitable and friendly flight attendant that Continental/United has in the fleet. How lucky am I? Because we all know that a great flight attendant can make or break a restful trip.

If you do not already have dinner reservations, you must make them immediately! Try some of the places I have recommended on this site and then “wing” a few during the week when demand is not so high. Make your dinner for New Year’s Eve away from the Eiffel Tower and early, then make your way over there around 10pm via Metro to get the experience. Of course the steps of Sacre Coeur are always an amazing place to be on New Year’s also with the incredible views of the entire city, but it will be really crowded and the thieves will be in big time pick pocket mode there. Be extra vigilant!

Have a wonderful trip and let me know if there are any other questions you have. I am happy to help.

Cheers,
Priscilla

Don’t rule out travel by auto. We often rent a car at the train station in Dijon and head out into wine country. Very easy to drive in that area and simply return the car to the train station when you’re done touring. We usually book a hotel within walking distance of the train station too–you’re going to love Dijon!

Good advice Margo! Will check out the rental car situation. I think my friend Lisa will rent the car since she lives in Europe. It’s easier for her to do the booking from there.
I have booked a hotel within walking distance and hope it’s decent because the price is very reasonable. The hotel you recommended is booked so that’s out. I think they may be under renovations because it shows them booked fully for a month and a half.
Super excited to head to Dijon.
Cheers,
Priscilla

Thanks Beth for the recommendations for Dijon! I have passed along your website to some friends who are thinking of doing a canal cruise in Europe. I will do it some day when I am in Europe during some warmer month.

Can’t wait to see my Paris tweeps! I definitely need to find a spot for a tweetup that gives us room to move about and chat. Would prefer 6th or 7th, or easy cab ride. Any thoughts? Thinking Jan 22/23/24 for gathering. Would love help booking a place. I can do the tweetvite.
XO, Priscilla

How exciting! You need to spend time in Dijon with one of my darling guides – elegant, entertaining, knowledgeable, and loves food and shopping. What if she were to look after you for a few hours/hlaf a day/day to show you the best of???

YES!!! We went to the Loire. We stayed at the most amazing B&B. Great wine tours and RELAXING. La Grande Maison. I have couple of blogs about them and have a few more to come. We also headed to Reims! GREAT city. Yummy champagne.
