Oh the Views from the Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice

IMG_2522First stop on the Côte d’Azur in Nice and the iconic 5 star Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée. The art deco facade has been restored, showing off its beauty and elegance. I was looking forward to seeing how the modern architecture fit into the landscape along the famous boardwalk of Nice. It dovetailed nicely and added a touch of elegance to the coast.

IMG_2434We were greeted by Morgan, a warm and friendly front desk clerk who checked us in quickly and set the tone for hotel. The concierge Elénore gave us great service, helping us to choose the right dinner spot for our first meal in France. Instead of merely offering suggestions, she asked us several questions about our likes and dislikes for atmosphere and cuisine narrowing down the selections and made us a reservation for dinner at a restaurant that specialized in local cuisine. It was now time to see our room and have a personal tour of the hotel by the beautiful, professional and sweet Floriane.

balcony palais tableBreathtaking is the only word that came to mind when we saw our room. Our room faced the Mediterranean Sea which was glistening with the sun shining brightly as the poor weather had just passed through Nice leaving us with clear blue skies to enjoy from our balcony. In real estate they say location, location, location is what makes a property spectacular, and in this case the Palais’ location is spectacular, but there was more to this hotel than just its perfect location.

IMG_2427Soothing seaside taupe and coral colors throughout the room gave it a feel that you were one with the outside spaces and when the balcony doors were opened you could hear the surf pounding the shoreline making you feel as if you were sleeping on the beach. Very relaxing, yet very practical, the rooms had everything we needed to make our stay fun and productive. The room was spacious with an area to sit in comfy upholstered chairs, desk space to sit and work comfortably and when it was time for a cocktail in our room we loved having the amazing bar ware at our fingertips.

IMG_2443The bathroom was huge and had a functional and beautiful design. The space-age round shower capsule was cool looking and had great water flow which many hotels find difficult to achieve. When traveling with friends, it’s especially nice to have a separate water closet so one person can use the restroom while the other person is showering and primping. As it was chilly, despite the sunshine, I loved the towel warming rack and fluffy bathrobes. My favorite detail was the closet! It was spacious and lighted so I could find what I was looking for with ease and had a shoe rack. How many times have I opened my suitcase on a trip and lined my shoes up in a corner so as to not trip over them on the way to the restroom at night? Problem solved! Such a small detail, but a meaningful one.

Pillows and duvets are something that can make or break a good night’s sleep. I rate both an A+ here! One pillow was firmer and one was squishy meaning I could pick the right one for my troublesome neck and back. The duvet was exactly the right thickness. I kept the French doors open all night despite the cold to enjoy the sounds of the surf and the duvet kept me warm and cozy. I had a fantastic night’s sleep. Who could ask for more?

IMG_2438Being winter it was too cold to take advantage of the great outdoor spaces and the poolside bar, but we could see how luxurious the deck would be in the height of the summer season. The hotel has a lovely indoor pool where you could swim from inside to outside without getting out of the pool. When you were indoors the colors of the decor made you feel you were outside which would be great on cool winter’s day. Attached to the area was a small, but very nice fitness center with enough equipment to have a good work out if you needed to work off some calories after tasting the local French pastries.

IMG_2532The breakfast room was bright and inviting and the buffet was outstanding! Both hot and cold options were available and the chef was waiting behind the hot buffet area to make you a special crêpe with all the fixings. The coffee was perfect – not too strong and accompanied by delicious warm cream making the ordinary cup something special.

IMG_2430An added bonus to the personal experience was the lovely hand written welcome note and goodies – local wines, macaroons, fruit, candle, key chain and information about Nice. I felt like a celebrity staying in this luxurious spot with the decadent amenities and amazing views. I cannot wait to return to the Côte d’Azur and the Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée!
