Electric Cars in France – Nice has it Covered

IMG_2553Electric cars in France

These cute and zippy electric cars are becoming more commonplace, especially in southern France. Nice is a traditional city with modern ideas. One of them is the use of electric cars. There are more and more charging stations popping up all over the city. Because the layout of Nice is very old world, the locations of the stations are not typically on main thoroughfares. Electric cars are for rent as well and make great options given how expensive petrol is in Europe.

Check out Auto Bleue to sign up to rent a car at one of the 35+ locations in Nice. This car service works for short trips only. There is a minimum of a one hour rental, but a maximum of 24 hours. You must have a valid driver’s license recognized by France to rent.

The rates are quite reasonable. It costs 8.5€ per hour or a day pass is 45€ which includes the electric charging. If you are staying in the area long-term, you can sign a six month minimum contract at 50€ per month giving you 10 hours per month included in your contract.

    Hi Kim,

I figured if anyone knew about this, then it would be you! I love how progressive Nice is about this. If the concept takes off even more, perhaps one day they will have an exchange with other cities whereby you can take a car and drop it off in another place.

    So neat!

    Cheers,
    Priscilla

Quite a nifty program and has been successful! A similar program is also available in the nearby town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, just outside of Nice.
