Kirwin wines I tasted. Kirwin wines in Bordeaux By now my regular readers know that Bordeaux is the preferred wine of the Gal Pals and when in Paris we drink it almost exclusively. That is, when we are not drinking Champagne, Burgundy or Sancerre. My recent trip to visit the chic and unique city left me wondering what took me so long make the short trip from Paris to this fabulous wine country. Now that I have been, there's no turning back. I loved every minute of it! The Guide to Bordeaux: How to Plan the Perfect Weekend first appeared in Upscale Living Magazine and was meant to be a launching point for a stay, not a complete guide. After my next trip in a couple of weeks, I hope to bring you more tips and tastes!

I believe in rules and I abhor getting in trouble, but when it comes to Paris all bets are off. Sometimes it's good to be an "Ugly American" and bend the rules just a bit. How do you know which ones to break? Here's my gals guide to breaking rules in Paris and having fun while doing it.

Au Petit Sud-OuestA Really Really Short Paris Visit by Contributor Margo Waite
When my step-son called and told us he and his girlfriend were ending their wine tour of France with a short Paris visit I was aghast. What can you do in Paris in such a limited amount of time?   I’m a regular visitor to Paris and there is still so much I haven’t experienced. I should mention he’s the manager of a restaurant in Wilmington, Delaware, so food and wine are important, indeed crucial, to him.

paris velibPicture yourself riding a bike along the Seine on a sunny afternoon scoping out the perfect plot of grass for an impending picnic. A vintage bottle of 2010 Bordeaux and a wedge of soft brie are wrapped tightly into a plaid blanket. A warm baguette hangs out of the wire basket attached to the front and lays against the picnic blanket. All the makings of lovely afternoon in paradise are now in place. I have always thought it's a great idea (riding bike in Paris) in theory, but have been afraid I would get hit by a crazed motorcycle driver. Now, seeing this graphic about how many people are using them, presumably without meeting their demise, I am convinced I must conquer my fears and check out the Velib bike rentals in Paris to make this little vignette come true.

One of my and my husband Rob's favorite Sunday morning outings in Paris, when so many shops and markets are closed, is going to the Jardin du Luxembourg in the 6th.  A center of attraction in this 60 acre expanse, the second largest park in Paris, is the large pond ringed by Parisian families enjoying their day of rest.  The radio controlled sailboats are great fun to watch and chairs are provided for just relaxing.   From there, it’s a pleasant stroll to the Marche Biologique Raspail at 116 Boulevard Raspail also in the 6th.

DSCN2073Who is 125 years old, but looks 25? The best looking gal in France celebrates today - happy birthday Eiffel Tower! The tower is like a best-dressed woman in Paris. By day she shows her strong lean legs, dressed classically in black with modern accessories and poses statuesque-like. But come dark, she transforms into the epitome of elegance. Dress her up with a vibrant accessory of lights and she becomes a beacon of sexy, but subtle beauty. Chic, but not overpowering she casts a glow in The City of Light that draws your attention to her without being overbearing. Sparkly in dress, but still demure in nature.

One of the gardens Hemingway traversed One of the gardens Hemingway traversed Walking in Hemingway's footsteps in Paris is a daunting task. I contacted Context Travel to take their Paris Hemingway Tour because I was a huge fan of his work, but also because I was curious how a man so talented in his writing could be such a bad character in his personal life. I've known many men and women alike who adore the man they envision from his travels as a war correspondent and admire the sense of joie d'vivre that comes across in his works. I was one of those folks until I got to "know" him a bit better.

DSCN2023The best shopping places in Paris are the spots where you find great looking fashion accessories for men and women that don’t break the bank. Paris Blue Lemon, founded in 2006 by Gregory David Salzmann and David Arnoux has already expanded into three locations within the city and is taking Paris by storm. Crisp blue and white store fronts with simple lines of shelves inside with products lined up need no fancy decorations because the gorgeous pieces speak for themselves.

Lid Sid hanging out with us. Lid Sid hanging out with us. While some may consider it cliché to take French cooking classes in Paris, I beg to differ. There is nothing commonplace about the Discover Walks “Ooh La La Fun Cooking Class” where hands-on learning is the key to its success. Our education began with a culinary shopping spree at the widespread St Mandé farmers market, and ended with a sophisticated meal prepared by yours truly and fellow guests under the instruction of the popular native Parisian and local celebrity chef Philippe Cazenave.
